Lance Armstrong
I am about 3/4 of the way through the Lance Armstrong book. First let me note that I truly think he is an amazing person and is an excellent role model. He has achieved so much and under such extenuating circumstances. That being said... he also knows all of those things. I feel like his book says, "I beat a very rare disease because I have incredible lung capacity and unstoppable athletic ability." I am sure it is just our particular situation, and my sensitivity is shining through, but it's not on the same inspiration level as The Last Lecture. Which, by the way, I think everyone should read, if you haven't already. If anybody has any uplifting/motivational books about this topic, I'd love to hear the titles!

JAC-
I've heard great things about the book THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOPE. But, I guess they're coming out with a new edition this month and it's back-ordered. When I was looking for it I found another highly recommended. I decided to have them both sent to your house...(threw in a little something for Tyler too). If you find it elsewhere before it arrives, please pass it on to someone else.
Love to you all,
Mary
Bill and Jackie,
I have been reading your blog daily and sharing the information with my parents. Thanks to Mike G. I now understand how it all works. Who would have guessed that Mike would be the tech expert. I have not written, because I was not sure what to write besides my thoughts are with you and your family. I recently talked with a friend who just found out she is cancer free and I asked her what ws the best advice she received while going through everything. She recommended that I read this book called, Crazy Sexy Cancer. I went to Borders and checked it out. I was really touched by it. One of the sayings in the book was--Go ahead and sweat the small stuff sometimes. It keeps your mind off sweating the big stuff---the stuff you can't always control. This is so true in all aspects of life. Know that I pray daily for you guys.
Love,
Kim Dunbar-Jeffrey
Bill & Jackie,
Just wanted you to know you are in my prayers. I log on to the blog daily to hear the latest- I love the stories of your family. Hang in there! I believe in the power of prayer, and I have put the word out to as many of the class of '85 as I could to round up lots! You are NOT alone.
Sincerely,
Delora
Hi Jackie,
I told you Lance was arrogant! :-)It was pretty much all about what a magnificent athlete he is. But, then he did go through treatment just like everyone else who has cancer and everyone who has won the battle has a story to tell. I think it is worth the read. He did beat the cancer and we can't deny that he is a pretty good athlete. I like his "live strong" and he has raised a lot of money and awareness. I still don't think he should have dumped Cheryl Crow! Enough about Lance.
One more week for Bill's appointment! Yeah! I know you have been anxiously waiting.
Take care, I think of you every day.
Love,
Aunt Sue
Jackie & Bill,
I'm of the class of '85 and received Delora's e-mail. Jackie, you are an excellent writer! I've read some past blogs and... WOW! Your family is going through a tough time (to put it lightly?) and your ability to hang on to you faith, hope and love is amazing and inspiring. Please know that I'm a prayer worrior and you are on my list! I believe prayer works and God heals. His ways and His timing are always PERFECT!
Love and blessings to you all,
Julie
Hi guys,
I was reading my daily dose of The Bartak's Blog and not only do I want to say hi so 'Hi' but I love Aunt Sue's reply to Lance Armstrongs book and him dumping Sheryl Crow. I do not know much about him, but sounds like his arrogance could have played a positive role when he was fighting his cancer. Its not a attractive quality of course in everyday life but when your dealing with such an aggressive, horrible disease you need every tool at your disposal to fight and win your battle. Maybe he just doesnt realize who gave him his tools to fight with.
That's humbling.
Take Care
At the Live Strong website(www.livestrong.org) under the "Cancer Support" pull down and under "Hear Survivor Stories" at the bootom you can "view all stories" and there are hundreds of testimonies from all the non supper athlete survivors.
Aloha Jackie & Bill -
I am also from the '85 crew who knew Bill "back in the day".
Thank you both for your courage and for sharing with everyone your journey. Your blog is such a blessing to all who read it. It is a comfort to those who have walked this road before, for those who are walking it now along side you and for those who may travel it in the future. God puts things in our lives for reasons we may not understand. Anyone reading your blog sees His love shining through your family, especially since you made the choice to share this with everyone. I thank God for the blessings of technology so that we can keep in touch across the miles. Your family is in my daily thoughts and prayers.
Take Care - God Bless

P.S.
I guess these words ring true even after all these years!!!
"We’re steadfast, loyal and true"
Yeah the appointment is rapidly approaching! We will keep your friend in our prayers also just as we do all of you!
Lenny and Julie
Jackie,
I have just read your entries into the blog and have been moved to tears about love and support you have written about this journey. I knew Bill all throughout high school along with Mike, Kevin, and Brad. Your husband is one of the most couragous people I know. He has a huge heart and if anyone can beat this it is him. Bill is one of a kind and an amazing person.
Our prayers, thoughts and energy are with you, Bill and your sweet son.
Lots of Love,
Chris Lastition
